Welcome to Homefront Answers. What would you like to know?

Everyone on Homefront answers can ask and answer questions, rephrase questions, or flag questions for deletion.

The top priority on Homefront answers is getting the questions answered and you don't need to be a administrator to do that!

Tasks that anyone can doEdit

  • Check recent changes and undo any vandalism.
  • Check new questions and fix any bad questions by rewording them.
  • Check new questions and fix any duplicate questions by redirecting them.
  • List bad questions for deletion by adding {{delete|reason}} to them.
  • Answer un-answered questions.
  • Advise and encourage new editors by leaving them messages on their talk page.
  • Participate in the forums.

Tasks that administrators can doEdit

  • Administrators can delete and undelete pages and can read deleted pages. Other users can flag pages for deletion by an admin. Admins should check the candidates for deletion and delete or fix any questions listed there.
  • Administrators have 1-click rollback button for quickly reverting vandalism.
  • Anyone can move pages. Administrators can also move images, and they can suppress redirects when moving a page (not recommended except in cases of vandalism as redirects are helpful to people searching for an answer).
  • Block users to prevent sustained vandalism
  • Lock questions that are subject to heavy and repeated vandalism
  • Edit the interface text
  • Edit fully protected pages
  • Delete user avatars

Bureaucrats are administrators who can also make other users into administrators using Special:Userrights.

See Help:Administrators' how-to guide for full details.

What can administrators not do? Edit

Administrators should not use their administrator powers to settle editing disputes; for example, to lock a page on a version he or she prefers in an editing dispute that isn't vandalism. Administrator powers should be used to help keep the wiki clear of vandalism, spam, and users who make malicious edits, but not for simple disagreements between users acting in good faith. Ideally an admin shouldn't be considered "in charge". The ideal admin is just someone who is trusted to have a few extra buttons and to use them for the benefit of the Wikianswers community. Different users have access to different functions of the site. While anyone can do most things on the site, including reading and editing, administrators can access a few additional functions.

Administrator abilities Edit

These additional functions include:

  • Deleting and undeleting pages, page histories, and uploaded files.
  • Locking a page so it cannot be edited or renamed by users without admin rights or autoconfirmed status.
  • Blocking IP addresses or user names from editing; and very quick "rollback" of undesirable edits.
  • Editing the interface by changing system messages and skins.

Who are this wiki's administrators? Edit

The "founder" of a wiki, the person who first requested it, is given administrator access automatically. Founders are also given bureaucrat access so they can make any other user on their wiki an administrator or bureaucrat. For a complete list of users with administrator access, see Special:Listusers/sysop.

You may also wish to list them on this page.

How do I use administrator powers? Edit

See Help:Administrators' how-to guide for a guide on using admin functions.

Becoming an Administrator Edit

For you to become an administrator, someone with bureaucrat access must make you one. On larger Wikia, there will usually be a community page for requests, with a page name such as "Homefront Answers:Request for Adminship". On a smaller wiki, you may simply ask on the community portal or Forum, or ask a bureaucrat directly on his or her talk page.

If there are no active bureaucrats, use the "Requests for Bureaucrat rights" page to nominate users to become bureaucrats. Once a community decision has been reached (or if there is no active community to debate the decision), please leave a message at the wiki adoption requests page and Wikia Staff can provide the rights. You should have plenty of experience in doing the basic wiki tasks of answering, rewording, and categorizing, before volunteering to become an admin. Administrators are experienced users who have already answered many questions on Wikianswers and want to help keep the wiki clean by deleting questions that are not allowed. Administrators should be willing to take advice from others and work in a collaborative and sensible way.

When you're ready to volunteer, just talk to a bureaucrat on this wiki about becoming an admin. If there are no active bureaucrats, please see Wikia's adoption requests page and Wikia Staff can provide the rights.
